A full range of activities that address specific psychosocial goals. Exercises that would conquer children’s fear, improve self-esteem, establish familiarity with procedures and surroundings, opportunities for play, learning, self-expression, peer interaction and family involvement as well as activities aimed at providing information, encouraging normalization, identifying coping techniques and encouraging. Support systems are used periodically to promote coping and adaptation. The hospital-based program modeled by the Little People help children and their families to cope with the emotionally distressing aspects of the illness and the medical treatment.

  1. BulletTo minimize the stress and anxiety of children, adolescents, and their families in the medical setting.

  2. BulletTo provide age appropriate, safe play environments.

  3. BulletTo enhance the young patient's emotional, social, physical and cognitive growth in the context of his/her family, and stage of development.

  4. BulletTo support parents and encourage their participation in their child's healthcare and treatment plan.

  5. BulletTo help children and families maintain their normal everyday experiences as best as possible.

  6. BulletTo provide appropriate resources/help for patients and families.

The Program seeks to achieve the following goals:

“The Little People Association is a leader the fight against cancer in Romania through its efforts to empower teenage cancer survivors caught between the worlds of pediatric and adult cancer,” said Doug Ulman, President and CEO of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  “The Association’s YOU CAN TOO! Campaign has been instrumental in taking action to improve the survival rates of this demographic.  As teenage survivors visit patients in hospitals across Romania, they offer critical support and encouragement to their peers fighting cancer,” Ulman said. “The Lance Armstrong Foundation applauds these acts of hope, courage and perseverance”.

The Little People have been working to improve the lives of children and teenagers with cancer in Romania since 1996.

Programs take place daily in six major treatment centers across Romania, Cluj Napoca - Timisoara - Iasi - Bucharest.
