Volunteer co-ordinator 2008

Katie Rizvi with the award best volunteer co-ordinator 2008, Romania

Katie who heads up the volunteer training for Little People won the 2008 award for the best volunteer co-ordinator Romania. The award was presented at the annual Pro Vobis Volunteer Gala for her work with children who have cancer.

This project has had a massive impact on cancer care for children and young people in Romania. The program is currently being implemented in Bucharest. Katie teaches workshops and trains volunteers (she is a volunteer herself) to work alongside her in both cancer wards in Cluj and now in Bucharest. Katie also set up and co-ordinates the Temerarii club. Temerarii is a club for teens and young people with cancer, and now is a nationwide club that brings together teenagers and young people who have cancer for special events that include meeting sport stars, celebs, and hosting summer camps. Temerarii club and the patient behavior projects that take place in hospital wards have 40 volunteers working on the project on a daily basis. The impact this has had on the lives of the teens and children who have cancer is remarkable. All these projects are done completely by volunteers and involves high school, university students and even former cancer patients who benefitted from the programs that Katie initiated while they were being treated for cancer and now want to volunteer to help other current patients.”

Well done Katie!!!
